LL Bean’s Vista Trekking Shorts are my all-time favorite shorts for outdoor activity, bar none.
Why These Shorts are So Great
I have three pairs of these shorts now in three different colors. I can’t recommend them highly enough. They’re…
SO COMFORTABLE—The nylon material has a bit of spandex in them that make them stretchy and oh-so comfortable. The waistband has a layer of soft microfiber on the inside that adds to the comfort.
BREEZY & COOL— I have yet to find a anything—shorts, capris or skirt—for my bottom half that’s so lightweight and cool in hot weather. I can feel the breeze right through them. What a relief on hot, and especially, muggy days.
Because of that, these are my go-to shorts around town in the summer, not just in the outdoors.
YET DURABLE—These are designed for hiking, not to look like cool outdoor wear for the city dweller. I’ve worn mine on hikes and canoe trips for several years now with no snags, rips or seams coming apart. In fact, they barely look worn.
They don’t need to be babied, either when wearing them or machine washing and drying them. That said, I do wash and dry on delicate, but more because the material is so light. Not because they’re actually delicate.
TONS OF POCKETS—And not just lots of them, but big enough to be functional. Several of them are zippered, too, for things you don’t want to lose, like car keys.
DRY FAST—These work great for paddle sports because they dry so fast, even when you’re wearing them. These are my go-to shorts for canoe trips.
NICE LENGTH—These have a 9-inch inseam which, for me, is just right.
Is There Anything Not-So-Great?
We could say the price—they’re $54. But, honestly, they’re well worth it because of all of the above. My husband and I happen to use LL Bean’s credit card that awards points for use. So we’re able to rack up coupons that give us great discounts. I’ve never had to pay full price—but I would!
After wearing them a day or two they stretch out a bit. That could be considered by some to be a not-so-great. It doesn’t both me.
Where to Get Them
New, these are only available through LL Bean. They also offer Vista Trekking Pants and Zip-Off Pants, but LL Bean doesn’t make them long enough for me!
I wish they had knee-length Vista Trekking Capris! I’d snatch them up right now. Nothing else I’ve found comes close to having the same ventilation in hot weather as this material (and I have a pair of Columbia and North Face capris).
Here’s the link to the product page on the LL Bean website (free shipping, too, since they’re over $50!).
The Final Word
If you’d like comfortable, functional and cool shorts for any outdoor activity you’ll love these shorts. These have become my standard for measuring every other short or capri against.
(NOTE: This isn’t an affiliate link and LL Bean didn’t send me shorts for review. I’m just a happy customer!)
